Ford India to reduce cost of ownership with child parts

Ford India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer Ford is planning to lower the cost of ownership of its car models in India by implementing an innovative strategy of using smaller components or child parts while assembly of vehicles.

The American carmaker expects to reduce costs by using child parts and components which can be simply replaced in case of breakdown as compared to replacing the entire component assembly in the vehicle. The strategy is based on the concept that replacing smaller components proves to be cheaper for the customers in terms of repairs.

As part of this strategy, Ford India is offering a replaceable door skin for the Figo hatchback car model which can be used in case of minor dents or damages instead of replacing the entire door. Further to lower ownership costs, the automaker is considering manufacturing its car products in India eliminating import duties and taxes.
