Ford India launches new variant of Figo on October 15, 2012

American carmaker Ford’s Indian arm Ford India has launched a new variant of the small car Figo in the Indian car market. The automaker is pinning its hopes on the new launch to boost its car sales in the festival season and help it overcome the slowdown in sales in the industry.

The petrol version of the new revamped Figo hatchback has been priced at Rs 3,84,999 (ex-showroom Delhi) while the diesel version of the car has a price tag of Rs 4,81,999 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company posted an 8.29 percent decline in sales in the month of September 2012 selling 9,418 units. Mr. Michael Boneham President and Managing Director Ford India stated that the company expects the new car launch to cure the slowdown in car sales and lift consumer sentiments. He added that the company is expecting higher car sales during the festival season.

Meanwhile, the company is engaged in setting up a new manufacturing facility in Gujarat with plans to expand its production activity. Ford’s Chennai facility currently exports products to 35 countries and is considering expanding the export operations to 15 new car markets.
