Fiat’s small car to compete with Maruti Alto 800

Fiat, the Italian automobile manufacturer is planning to introduce a new small car model in India and global markets. The new car being developed by the carmaker will compete with the Alto 800 small car by Maruti Suzuki India, stated Mr. Mike Manley Chief Operating Officer for Asia at Fiat-Chrysler.

Mr. Manley, also Head of the Jeep brand by Chrysler commented that the company is planning to launch the Jeep brand in India in the second half of 2013. He stated that 4 Jeep car models are set to be launched in India by 2016. Among these cars will be the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler models to be brought in as completely built units (CBUs) in addition to 2 car models which will be produced locally. The distribution of the Jeep car models will be managed by Fiat India’s dealership network.

Fiat along with the Jeep brand is targeting a market share of 5 percent in India by 2015 which entails launching 9 new car models by 2016.
