Fiat to launch small car in India

Fiat India is planning to adopt a new strategy to improve its declining sales in the Indian market. The Italian giant will start by bringing out new and face-lifted models of its existing cars Fiat Linea and Fiat Grande Punto. A new small car priced around Rs. 3,00,000 – Rs. 4,00,000 is being planned to be launched in the year 2012 and will be placed below the Punto. It is being developed at Fiat’s R&D facility in Turin, Italy. The company will manufacture 85% of the car’s components at the Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra.

Fiat India’s President Mr. Rajeev Kapoor confirmed the launch of the small car in the year 2012. He said that the car is currently being developed and the launch date and details will be shared when the product is ready and finalized. The car with a one litre engine is said to be designed as a competition to Maruti Suzuki Alto and will be priced aggressively.
