Fiat India is eyeing to export its vehicles to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries in an attempt to improve its export sales.
Mr. Tarun Khanna, Fiat’s Marketing Head stated that the firm was looking to export its Linea sedan and Punto hatchback to the SAARC countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Till date, the company has exported around 2,000 vehicles from India to the South-African market which includes 1100 models of Punto, 360 models of Linea and 650 models of Palio. Mr. Khanna quoted that the company had begun exporting in 2010 and has so far exported only to South Africa. He further added that the company was looking to roll out high powered version of Linea and CNG Punto after launching two variants of Grand Punto in 2011.
The company is hopeful that its new launches will help the company achieve over 60 per cent sales growth in exports this year. Fiat India, a joint venture between Fiat and Tata Motors, is targeting a sale of 40,000 units for this fiscal year 2011-2012.
