BMW India loses the top luxury carmaker crown to Audi and Mercedes Benz

BMW India, the Indian arm of the German luxury carmaker BMW has reportedly fallen to the 3rd spot in the luxury car segment in India on account of a 22 percent decline in sales in the year 2013. The rival luxury carmakers Audi and Mercedes Benz have surpassed BMW in terms of total sales in the year 2013.

The German carmaker sold a total of 7,327 units in the year 2013 in comparison to Audi and Mercedes Benz which sold more than 10,000 units and 9,000 units respectively. Audi and Mercedes Benz have in fact been able to increase their sales by 11 percent and 32 percent in the year 2013. The luxury car market in 2013 grew by 6 percent.

Other luxury carmakers are also catching up in the luxury car segment in India such as Jaguar Land Rover India posted an increase of 22 percent in its sales for the year 2013 selling 2,913 units.

Mr. Philipp Von Sahr President BMW Group India stated that the carmaker focusing on sustainable growth and aims to become the leading luxury carmaker in India.
