November may have been a disastrous month for carmakers in terms of domestic sales but, fortunately, they still have something to smile about. Total vehicle exports from India shot up by a whopping 61.8 per cent in November 2008, compared to exports in the same month last year. 146,337 units were exported in November 2008, as against 90,398 units in November 2007. Chiefly responsible for the increase were passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
In the passenger car segment, 34,607 units were sold last month as against the 15,464 units sold in the corresponding period last year. Hyundai’s exports went up from 9,898 units to 28,500 units, while Maruti’s overseas sales climbed from 4,382 units to 4,920 units.
