Audi intensifies its effort to obtain the numero uno spot in India

Audi India has intensified its attempts to secure the numero uno position in the Indian auto market by unseating the top two firms, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, by 2015.

In August 2011, Audi reported over 100 percent jump in its sales to 510 units. In comparison to last year’s sales which stood at 1,876 for the January-August period, Audi’s sales this year for the same period jumped by 95 percent to 3,655 units. Encouraged by its sales, Audi has set a sales target of 5,000 units for this year. To achieve its sales target and attain the top spot, Audi is increasing its dealerships in the country and hiring more personnel.

Audi India Head, Mr. Michael Perschke recently stated that the company would hire at least 600 more people and increase its dealerships to 25 by the end of 2015. The company will also enhance its portfolio with the launch of the Q3 (model) in 2012.

According to Mr. Perschke, India has become a strategic market for Audi and with a 95 percent growth in the January-August, the company is confident of becoming the No. 1 luxury car manufacturer by 2015.

While Audi is confident of reaching its sales target, domestic auto majors are reporting a steep decline in their sales since July 2010. In August 2011, the domestic auto-makers’ sales saw a decline by over 10 percent.
