Audi India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury automobile manufacturer Audi is planning to commence the assembly of its Q3 SUV car model at its Aurangabad facility in India. The facility is already engaged in the assembly of the A4, the A6 and the Q5 SUV car models.
The carmaker plans to have an installed capacity of up to 12,000 cars annually in India by the year 2014-15. It currently has a capacity of 7,500-9,000 units at its facility in Aurangabad which includes the assembly line for the Q7 SUV.
According to Mr. Michael Perschke Head Audi India, the car manufacturer has set up a new assembly hall at its facility which enables it to assemble about 7,500-9,000 units through a single shift. He added that if required as per market demand, with a higher number of shifts the company will be able to touch about 12,000 units.
The German automaker is currently focusing on the expansion of its Q series of car models in India. For the same purpose, it has set up a dedicated production unit at Aurangabad at the Skoda production facility as part of the Volkswagen Group.
Mr. Perschke stated that the company expects to sell more than 8,000 units in India in the 2012-13 fiscal which would amount to an increase of about 55-60 percent in annual sales over 5,511 units sold in the 2011-12 fiscal.
