Audi India, the German luxury automaker and part of the Volkswagen Group has announced its plans to establish a new assembly plant at the Aurangabad facility of Skoda with the aim of meeting the increase in demand for its car products in the Indian luxury car market.
The company currently assembles the luxury sedans A4 and the A6 and the Q5 sports utility vehicle (SUV) at the Aurangabad facility. With the setting up of the new dedicated production plant, the German carmaker will add an installed capacity of assembling 3,000 cars annually, stated Mr. Michael Perschke Head Audi India.
Mr. Perschke added that the new plant is being constructed and will be operational by the end of 2012. He stated that the SUV Q7 and the SUV Q3 will be assembled at the new plant, starting with the Q7 by the end of 2012 followed by the Q3 in 2013.
The company is targeting sales of 8,000 units in the year 2012-13 and expects its sales to increase by 20 percent in the year 2013-14.
