Maruti Suzuki India posts 1.91 percent sales growth in October 2013

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has posted slow growth in the month of October 2013 despite the festive season. The carmaker sold a total of 1,05,087 units in the month in comparison to 1,03,108 units sold in the same month in 2012, registering a rise of 1.91 percent.

The increase in domestic sales in October 2013 is quite marginal from 96,002 vehicles in October 2012 to 96,062 vehicles. The exports by the automaker witnessed a 27 percent rise from 7,106 units in October 2012 to 9,025 units exported in the same month in 2013.

The small car segment of the carmaker was the worst hit posting a decline of 6.8 percent from 42,233 units in October 2012 to 39,379 units sold in October 2013. Sales in the compact car segment including the Swift, the Ritz and the Estilo hatchbacks also fell by 1.2 percent. The SX4 sedan registered a fall of 62.3 percent in sales in the month, while the utility vehicle segment declined by 2.2 percent.

The compact sedan segment however witnessed a growth of 19.6 percent selling 17,211 units in the month compared with 14,389 vehicles sold in October 2012. So did the sales of Omni and Eeco vans which sold 9,786 units in October 2013 against 8,791 units sold in the same month in 2012, a rise of 11.3 percent.
