Honda Cars India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker Honda is planning to target the volume car segment in the Indian auto and market to gain greater presence by adding more diesel car models to its Indian car portfolio.
The carmaker launched the Amaze sedan in the month of April 2013, its first car model in India with a diesel engine option. The Amaze sedan now accounts for 60 percent of Honda’s total sales and has a 3 to 5 month waiting period for delivery.
Honda India currently has presence in about 10 percent of the Indian auto market and plans to increase it to at least 50 percent by around 2015. As part of the plan, the carmaker will be launching new and revamped car models such as the Jazz hatchback and the City sedan with diesel engine option. The localization of the production will also be increased to achieve greater cost benefits.
