General Motors (GM) India, the Indian arm of the American carmaker General Motors has posted a jump of 39.82 percent in sales for the month of May 2013. The carmaker sold 8,500 units in the month as compared to 6,079 units sold in May 2012.
The sales figures were led by the carmaker’s new Sail sedan with sales of 2,851 units, followed by the Enjoy MUV with 2,177 units, the Beat small car with 1,506 units and the Tavera MUV with 1,475 units in the month of May 2013.
According to Mr. P Balendran Vice-President GM India, the sales growth can be attributed to the launch of the two new car models in the Indian car market, namely the Chevrolet Sail sedan and the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV. He added that a good monsoon season may bring some cheer to the stagnant Indian car market.
