Mahindra expects sales to improve in May-June 2013

Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) witnessed an increase of 2 percent in its sales for the month of April 2013. According to Mr. Arun Malhotra Chief Sales & Customer Care Officer Automotive Division M&M, the sales in April are usually slower after the sales peak month of March 2013.

The India automotive body, the Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM) has stated the 2012-13 fiscal to be a dismal year for the Indian auto industry in terms of sales and expects similar sales performance in the 2013-14 fiscal.

Mr. Malhotra however expects that sales are likely to improve in the months of May and June 2013. The SUV manufacturer has also expressed its disappointment with the government’s decision to impose the 3 percent excise duty on sports utility vehicle which it believes will dampen the purchasing sentiments of new car buyers.
