Hyundai Motor India posts a 2.48 percent fall in sales for December 2012

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India’s second largest automobile manufacturer and India’s largest exporter of cars has posted a decline of 2.48 percent in sales for the month of December 2012. The carmaker sold a total of 47,833 units in the month in comparison to 49,050 units sold in the same month in the year 2011.

The domestic sales of the company also fell by 9.55 percent with 26,697 unit sales in December 2012 compared with the sales of 29,516 units in the month in 2011. However, the export figures of the company rose by 8.2 percent to 21,136 units in December 2012 in comparison to 19,534 units exported in the same month in 2011.

The A2 segment of the company which includes the Eon, the Santro, the i10 and the i20 sold 41,069 units while the A3 segment including the Accent and the Verna mid-size sedans sold 6,270 units in December 2012. The luxury sedan Sonata and the SUV Santa Fe sold 20 units and 46 units respectively in the month, while the Elantra sold 428 units.

The company’s total sales for the year 2012 increased by 4.08 percent from 6,16,140 units sold in 2011 to 6,41,281 units in December 2012.

Mr. Rakesh Srivastava Vice President (Sales and Marketing) HMIL stated that despite the unfavorable market conditions during the year 2012, the company has been able to maintain sales by refreshing the i20 hatchback and launching the Sonata and the Elantra premium sedans which have offered string volume sales.
