No plans to launch compact cars in India: Audi

Audi India, the Indian arm of the German luxury car manufacturer Audi has stated that it doesn’t intend to launch its compact car models in India as its competitors such as BMW have done. Instead of introducing compact mini cars in the Indian car market, Audi plans to launch more top-tier car models and SUVs to boost sales.

Commenting on the automaker’s strategy for the Indian car market, Mr. Michael Perschke Chief Audi India stated that Audi has been following a top-down strategy in India which has proved successful. He added that the auto manufacturer does not intend to dilute the brand by launching smaller cars as its competitors have done to garner higher sales figures.

In terms of total cars sold in India, Audi and its closest competitor BMW have sold 5,174 units each for the period April to October 2012. BMW with its lower priced mini car models has been garnering large volume sales. However, Audi India plans to stick to high luxury quotient and targets the top spot in luxury car segment by the year 2014.
