Hyundai India, the India subsidiary of the South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai is now considering strengthening its diesel car portfolio in order to boost sales and growth in the India automobile market.
The company, in spite of having a strong presence in the compact car segment with car models such as the Eon, the Santro Xing, the i10 and the i20 considers itself lacking a complete portfolio due to inadequate diesel options across its car portfolio in India. In the compact car segment, the company offers only the i20 with a diesel option as opposed to Maruti Suzuki which offers car models like the Swift and the Ritz with diesel options.
With the diesel cars in focus, Hyundai India plan to launch the i10 compact car with a diesel option by the end of 2013. The company expects to garner growth in the Indian auto industry with the help of diesel portfolio expansion.
