Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), the Indian arm of the Japanese automaker Toyota is planning to invest an amount of Rs 900 crore in order to expand its production capacity at its Bangalore facility in India by March 2013. The company’s current production capacity of 2,10,000 units will be increased to 3,10,000 units annually by March 2013.
According to Mr. Vikram Kirloskar Vice-Chairman TKM, the production capacity at the Bangalore plant of the company will be increased with primary focus on increasing the capacity of the Innova and the Etios sedan.
A plan to set up a diesel engine manufacturing plant is also on the table, stated Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa Managing Director TKM. The decision is pending due to the lack of clarity on the diesel pricing policy by the Indian government and what the future hold for the diesel cars in the Indian automobile industry.
