Honda India posts 7.17 percent fall in July 2012 sales

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda’s Indian subsidiary Honda Siel Cars India has posted a fall of 7.17 percent in sales for the month of July 2012. The company sold a total of 4,386 units in the month in comparison to 4,725 units sold in the same month in 2011.

The City sedan by the company sold 1,843 units followed by the Brio small car with 1,715 units. The premium hatchback Jazz and the Civic sedan sold 598 units and 138 units respectively. The company sold 39 units of the Accord premium sedan and 53 units of the CR-V sport utility vehicle in the month of July 2012.

The company’s sales have been marred by the sluggish sales and slow economic activity in the Indian automobile industry. Moreover, the absence of diesel car models in the company’s car portfolio in India has adversely affected its sales as the Indian consumers are shifting from petrol powered vehicles to diesel powered vehicles due to lower running cost of diesel fuel.
