Honda cancels new Civic launch in India

Japanese automaker Honda has put off the launch of the new Civic sedan in India, according to industry speculations. The company considers the new Civic, which has been launched throughout international markets, to be too expensive for the Indian auto market in addition to the absence of a diesel version with the sedan.

The decision is said to be based on the fact that the sales of the Civic sedan was much lower than other car models in the segment such as the Toyota Corolla Altis and GM Chevrolet Cruze. Other car models in the segment are also available in diesel versions.

Industry experts state that Honda has been unable to keep up with the shift in demand from petrol cars to diesel powered cars. Moreover, frequent hikes in petrol price have lowered the consumer buying sentiments for petrol cars.
