Ford India to focus on small car segment

With the small car segment accounting for the majority of sales in the Indian automobile industry, American auto maker’s Indian subsidiary Ford India has stated that it will focus on small cars to expand in the Indian market and boost sales.

According to Mr. Nigel Wark Executive Director of Ford India, majority of the six products the company plans to launch by 2015 would lie in the small car segment. Currently, the Figo hatchback by Ford India contributes to 75 percent of the company’s domestic sales. The company plans to export the small car to about 50 foreign markets.

Ford India has a market share of 3.2 percent in the Indian auto industry and has clocked sales of 1,18,791 units in the fiscal 2011-12.
