Renault-Nissan to double production to 2,50,000 in 2012

The Renault-Nissan joint venture manufacturing plant near Oragadam Chennai in India will increase its output to 2,50,000 units in 2012. Renault Nissan Automotive India has spent about 80 percent of its planned investment of Rs 4,500 crore for the production plant.

The company had produced 75,000 cars in the year 2010 and 1,35,000 units in 2011. With the commissioning of its second production line in March 2012, the company will be able to manufacture 2,50,000 units in 2012, nearly doubling its production.

With the aim of functioning at full capacity to produce 4,00,000 vehicles annually, the company expects the increase in production to boost sales and growth on a global scale. Moreover, the company states that it may consider further expansion in light of the increase in its exports in 2011. Out of 1,35,000 units produced in 2011, 70 percent were exported to foreign markets.
