Ford India has plans to develop a manufacturing hub in India to cater to the Africa and Asia-Pacific region. As part of the plan, the company will now focus on the small and low-cost cars segment in India which is witnessing immense growth along with the entry of a number of global players. A range of new small car models are being planned for launch in India by the year 2015.
The company’s aim is to grab a share of the small car market in India which it has been neglecting until now. Moreover, it wants to increase the chunk of its exports from India to various international auto markets where small cars command volume sales.
According to Mr. Michael Boneham, President of Ford India, Ford India also intends to increase the localization of the auto part supply in order to bring down the cost of production.
