Nissan India reports 158 percent sales growth in February 2012

Nissan Motor India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Nissan has posted its highest ever monthly sales with a growth of 158 percent in the month of February 2012. The company sold 5,371 cars in February 2012 in comparison to 2,081 cars in 2011 for the same period. The biggest contributor to the sales figure was the company’s sedan Sunny which was launched in September 2011 selling 3,130 units.

The second major contributor was the Micra hatchback which sold 2,198 units and the rest comprised of the luxury sedan Nissan Teana, the crossover SUV X-Trail and the sports car 370z. According to Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama Managing Director Nissan Motor India, the company’s car models, the Micra and the Sunny, both of which are being manufactured in India have been gaining acceptance among the Indian customers. He added that the company plans to build upon that acceptance to capture a larger share of the Indian automobile market.
