Nissan India reported an increase of 178 percent in its monthly sales in the month of January 2012 selling 5,168 units, the highest ever monthly sales figures for the company. With an increase of 178 percent in the monthly sales, the January 2012 sales surpassed the previous highest sales month record of the company held by November 2011 when more than 3,000 units were sold.
Among the models sold by Nissan in India, 98 percent of the units are being manufactured locally thus enabling the company to implement a competitive pricing strategy. The highest contributor to the sales in January 2012 was the newest car model launched by Nissan in September 2011 selling 3,218 units, the Sunny sedan which is being manufactured at the company’s Oragadam facility near Chennai.
Commenting on the increase in sales, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama Managing Director Nissan Motor India Private Limited stated that breaking the 5,000 sales mark in India is a milestone for the company. He added that the company has been developing and introducing car models in India according to the requirements of the Indian customers.
Nissan already has plans to expand its car model portfolio by launching the Evalia urban-class vehicle production of which will commence in the latter half of 2012 at the Oragadam facility.
