Toyota to venture into Indian motorsport

With Toyota Racing Development, the motoring arm of the company, Toyota plans to enter the Indian motorsport scene with a one-make series. The series is expected to be a touring car championship as it will be held at the three racing tracks in India at the Buddh International Circuit and at Coimbatore and Chennai. The championship is due to be held in mid 2012.

The cars and engines will be provided by the Toyota Kirloskar Motor Limited and the cars would be sold to customers who desire to participate in the event. A total of 25-30 cars would be a part of this series. The company is still in the process of acquiring the necessary approvals for the series. The cars being used will be rebuilt to suit the racing and sporting requirements of the event.

The company is expected to divulge more information and details at the Auto Expo in January 2012 at New Delhi.
