Skoda Rapid sedan launched in India

The mid-sized sedan Rapid by the Czech automobile manufacturer hit the Indian roads on November 16, 2011. The new car is available in the price range of Rs. 6,75,000 to Rs. 9,19,000. Being a part of the automobile group Volkswagen, the Rapid is based on the Volkswagen Vento platform. Both diesel and petrol variants are offered in the new sedan powered by a 1.6 liter engine.

Skoda RapidThe petrol variant of the Skoda Rapid can be availed for a price of Rs. 6,75,000 to Rs. 8,99,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi) while the diesel variant is offered for a price between Rs. 7,95,000 to Rs. 9,19,000. The petrol variant will compete with the Honda City while the diesel variant will compete against the Hyundai Verna.

Commenting on the launch of the new sedan car, Skoda Auto India Marketing Head Mr. Tarun Jha said, “India is a very important market for us. There was a gap between our compact car Fabia and the sedan Laura. To fill that gap, we have launched the Rapid in the C segment.” Mr. Jha also added that Skoda may export the Rapid to neighboring countries at a later stage. The company has earlier announced its plans to start exporting its cars manufactured in India to global markets.
