Maruti Suzuki to make 17,50,000 cars annually

Maruti Suzuki is planning to increase its annual production capacity to 17,50,000 units. After the expansion of operation at its two new plants, the company is expected to further enhance the production with the inauguration of a third plant. The feat will be achieved by the year 2013, says M.M. Singh, Managing Executive Officer (Production), Maruti Suzuki.

The company had to increase the production capacity to meet the growing demand for its cars. Moreover, the company incurred huge production losses owing to the labour unrest at its Manesar plant giving way to longer waiting periods. With higher production capacities, Maruti Suzuki expects to reduce the waiting period for its vehicles which is currently about 3-4 months for some of its popular models such as the Swift hatchback and the Swift DZire sedan.
