Fiat contemplates introducing Sedici into the Indian market

The Indian subsidiary of Fiat is contemplating on introducing a car in the compact SUV segment into the Indian market. The company is considering on either launching its SUV Sedici in India with certain modifications to suit the Indian terrain or a product very similar to it, as stated by a close source involved in the discussions.

Sedici was first showcased by Fiat in Geneva Motor Show (in 2006). If the company decides to launch Sedici in India, it would be company’s first offering in the ‘B’ segment in India. Currently, Sedici is manufactured by Suzuki Motors on the SX4 platform in Hungary. The product is developed primarily for the European markets where it is very popular.

In what is seen as an attempt to write off the company’s losses and introduce new models on the Indian roads, Fiat group with its Indian joint venture partner Tata Motors has recently pumped in Rs. 150 crore into the company.
