There was a lot to see at the Auto Expo 2016 and the bike manufacturers also had impressive displays and product portfolios up for us to get glimpse of, but unfortunately there weren’t many launches. There were however some interesting concepts and upcoming bikes to check out. Here are the top 5 most important bikes that were showcased as the Auto Expo.
Honda Navi:
The Honda Navi is a bike that has been launched in the Indian market and has created its own segment. It is not a motorcycle and it is not a scooter, in fact Honda is calling it a ‘fun bike’. The bike design is very small and compact, and it’s obviously meant for city use, but it looks very cool and stylish. The bike gets the same 110cc engine from the Activa with about 8bhp of power. The bike is available with a price tag of just Rs 39,500 ex-showroom Delhi.
Honda Africa Twin:
The most exciting news however came from Honda as they showcased the legendary all-new Africa Twin adventure motorcycle. The new Africa Twin is completely new and features a 1000cc engine with 94bhp. It’s got many different riding modes, and in the international markets it is available with an optional automatic transmission, however Honda has already informed us that when the Africa Twin does make it to India it will not be offered with the auto transmission. The Africa Twin will enter a growing segment and will compete with the Triumph Tiger and BMW 1200GS.
Triumph Street Twin
The entire new Bonneville lineup was also on display at the British manufacturer’s pavilion. Triumph not only showcased the new Street Twin, which is the base model in the new lineup, but they also launched the bike with a price tag of Rs 6.9 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. They also launched the T120 for Rs 8.4 lakh, and they showcased the upcoming Thruxton.
DSK Benelli TRK 502:
One of our favorite bike at the Expo was the upcoming TRK502 from Italian manufacturer Benelli. The TRK502 is a dual sport bike that will be launched in India very soon. Currently there are no other bikes in the 500cc dual sport segment so DSK Benelli will get an upper hand. The bike has a 500cc engine producing 45 bhp and will probably carry a price tag of around Rs 5 lakhs, which is very competitive. The bike also looks very good with a new and contemporary style.
TVS Akula 310:
Without a doubt the greatest new to come out of the Auto Expo was new that TVS is getting seriously involved in the sports bike segment. We already saw their all new Apache RTR 200, which looks stunning, but now they showcased a brand new concept called the Akula 310, and what’s even more interesting is that they have announced this concept will make it to production and be launched at the end of the year. The Akula 310 is based on the BMW G 310R, but it is a fully faired sports bike and it looks gorgeous. The bike will get a 300cc engine with about 40bhp of power.
