30,000 Ford EcoSports already booked

The SUV and cross over craze seems to be continuing in India. After sales of sedan cars fell drastically last year, it seems that even the addition of Honda’s new Amaze sedan will not bring up that figure anytime soon. The Renault Duster was a huge hit and was responsible for the majority of SUV sales in the country last year. But now that Ford has brought in the cross over utility vehicle called EcoSport, its safe to say that the trend is definitely shifting.

The EcoSport was announced at a starting price of just Rs 5.7 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, and that is quite a steal, considering that it is indeed a very good car perfect for Indian road conditions. The small length and high ground clearance are a boon for Indian customers looking for a car that can help them to easily traverse over bumpy urban roads and tight traffic. So far in just 17 days since its launch, Ford has managed to gain 30,000 bookings for the EcoSport. This is good news for Ford who made a he loss last year. However for the customer it now means there will be a longer waiting period for delivery of the car. Nonetheless the trend is evident and we also are awaiting the Maruti Suzuki cross over concept due next year. Surely, many more manufacturers will follow suit.
