Toyota Prius expected to come to India in 2010

Toyota Prius HybridJapanese car maker Toyota Motor is planning to launch the Prius Hybrid in India sometime in the second quarter of 2010. The Toyota Prius, launched globally in 1997,  is the world’s first mass-produced gasoline-electric hybrid car and will be imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD  Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), said that the company is in the process of studying market conditions, demand for hybrid cars and the tax structure before finalising a launch schedule for the Prius. He said that in comparison to other countries, tax support for eco-friendly vehicles in India is quite meagre.

  1. I think the company is waiting due to high import tax from the Indian Govt as the Honda stepped back with its Civic Hybrid in India. Toyota will not launch anytime soon this year.

    Thanks.
