Eicher Motors joins hands with Polaris

The Indian market is still heating up despite the world’s economic condition worsening which is why global companies are still heading over and setting up shop on our shores. Polaris has been a recent entry into the Indian market, and now the American manufacturer of ATV’s, motorcycles and other off-road machines has set up a joint venture with Indian manufacture of commercial vehicles Eicher Motors. Eicher Motors is currently in a 50/50 partnership with Volvo for their commercial vehicles but they also are the makers of the legendary Royal Enfield motorcycles. This is exciting news for both companies as Mr. Scott W Wine, CEO, Polaris Industries Inc. himself said that, “this agreement reinforces Polaris’ position as a global leader, instantly expanding our presence in India and our access to additional emerging markets around the globe. This joint venture provides both companies incredible opportunities to develop new products and realize global growth”. Both companies are expected to pump in around Rs 250 crores to set up a plant by 2015 in the country and will start production of a personalized vehicle, but we don’t know what kind of vehicle yet. We think that both companies will share privileges, which means that Polaris will manufacture their vehicles at a cheaper price in India, while Eicher will certainly gain from the technology and innovation put forward by Polaris in its motorcycle and off-road products. Whether or not the two firms will collaborate to develop a common product is unknown but this is certainly exciting news.
