Confirmed – 2014 BMW M3 / M4 to get straight 6 turbo engine

If you really love the BMW M division then you would know that the next generation M3 and M4 are about to hit the road, but you wouldn’t quite know what they would hold under their hot hoods because there was just so much speculation of ‘will they wont they’. However, we have just gotten word from the man himself, President of BMW North America Mr. Ludwig Willisch, that cars will feature an inline 6-cylinder engine unit and not a V-configuration as speculated. That means no more 4.0 litre V8 which is currently used, instead the new engine will use a 3.0 litre with either twin turbos, and we so desperately hope, tri-turbo technology that could ultimately produce a power output of over 440bhp – that is some serious power for a car that is already very light on the tarmac. In addition two new variants will be offered in the form of a M4 Coupe and a convertible. The new M cars will most likely be unveiled in late 2013, but what we really want to set our eyes on will be the M2 which will also make its debut at around that time.
