SUV Outlander is the beginning of the new cars HM-Mitsubishi plans for India

C K Birla group’s Hindustan Motors, in joint venture with Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors, has big plans for India. It is planning to launch one model every six months as part of their growth plan. The company is currently selling four models: Pajero, Lancer, Cedia and Montero. It will launch another SUV Outlander in August-September 2008.

“We are concentrating on the SUV segment on the basis of good customer response for our models. We are witnessing good growth since we shifted our focus towards premium sedans,” said Y.V.S. Vijayakumar, Vice-President, Hindustan Motors.

The growth plans for HM-Mitsubishi includes increasing the product portfolio and expanding the dealer network for reach. The first company-owned showroom of HM-Mitsubishi was opened in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The company is manufacturing all models, except the premium SUV Montero, which is being imported from Japan as completely built unit.
They are looking at launching the environment friendly electric car I-MIEV. I-MIEV, which was showcased in the Auto Expo 2008, will be easy on the wallet, environment and noise. The pricing of this car would be dependent on the government subsidy , but it would be more costly than a normal car.
