M&M launches compact SUV Thar

Mahindra TharMahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launched its 4X4 sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Thar CRDe, on December 28, 2010. According to Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, the chief executive of M&M’s automotive division, the new SUV, priced at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), has been launched keeping in mind the growing segment of off-road enthusiasts in the country. Powered by a 2.5-litre CRDe engine, the Thar can be driven at variable speeds and acceleration, and has a modern suspension layout with abuse resistant rear leaf springs.

Company officials say that the new compact SUV is targeted not only at those looking for off-roaders, but also “lifestyle seekers”, and that it is a modern version of some of M&M’s earlier vehicles like the Commander Jeep, the CJ 340, the MM 540, the Classic and the Legend. The company will also be launching a high-end pick-up truck sometime in the first half of 2011.

  1. Excellent vehicle and a much needed one finally after a long long time their is a off Roader which you can take places, But I am yet to test drive one and recommend to like minded people who take on off Roading seriously……

  2. Excellent Vehicle from the Mahindra stable, You must also offer Winch and the complete Off Roading Pack as Optional… As electric Winches are hard to find here, if one does they are god damn expensive. I am sure M&M can source all this much cheaper and affordable for all…
Thar once again is an excellent Jeep, keep it up….. Team Thar Congratulation’s.

  3. M&M is a number 1 company in vehicle…
great work and i am waiting to test drive
    Congratulation’s to M&M team……..

  4. Off-road vehicles have an enthusiastic following because of their many uses and versatility. The use of higher clearance and higher traction vehicles enables access on trails and forest roads that have rough and low traction surfaces. It is a big help.

  5. the thar although a competitive offroader still some what lacks that grunt. a typical off roader should have. and with a price tag of around 6 lac. i doubt its worth the money.

  6. I am regular buyer of Mahindra product Scorpio I using my 4th Scorpio, now I look forward with new advance features in Scorpio like eg: automatic mirror folders left & right side, push type button change over from 2 to four wheel drive, whole car lifting & lowering, fog lamp & head lamps in LED type, front grill in smiling pattern, side walls inside fitted with safety air bags, independent power distribution to wheels while stuck in thick slushee mudee, short length of engine hood, more rear space for luggage.
