There is still time before the Tata Nano will actually hit the Indian roads, but that hasn’t deterred it from creating a turmoil in Delhi’s second hand car market with prices of small cars crashing anything between 15 to 30 percent. The ones suffering major setbacks are cars like the Maruti 800, Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R & Hyundai Santro.
The second hand small car buyers are holding themselves back till the launch of the Nano in October which is to retail at a price of around 1.3 lakhs. The fate of the second hand market of which 70 percent are small cars, now completely lies in the hands of this small wonder whose production is initially going to be limited to 2,50,000 units a year.
