Maruti has been keeping the all new three-box based on the hatchback Swift well under wraps. So much so, that there was no mention or glimpse of it in the Auto Expo. As this gimmick fired our curiosity, we set our hounds free to sniff out a Dzire somewhere and lead us to it. And what we got to know was this.
Maruti seems inspired by the FMCG tradition and has put on offer a product for the difference of every lakh. This is an effort to retain its huge customer base. The new sedan is going to be an offering between Swift and SX4 and will be offered in 6 variants, LXi, VXi and ZXi in petrol and LDi, VDi and ZDi in diesel. The 1.3L multijet engine used in the Swift is something which will be put to use here too. Going to be released in mid-March, the car will be priced between 5 to 7 lakhs.
The sedan is a replica of the hatchback with a boot attached along. And as some spy shots do the rounds of internet, the reactions to the car are mixed. Some think it is amazingly boyish, upbeat and young-looking and others think that Maruti is making a big mistake by phasing Esteem out and bringing in this sedan. SOME are also promising that when the car actually comes out, it is going to take peoples’ breath away and that it resembles Toyota’s Camry from the rear end.
Whichever it is, the hype is building up and Maruti seems all set to ride the crest with panache.
[…] upon this article today. Maruti Swift Sedan (Dzire) « The WordPress Blog All of whats in there sounds positive but the only thing that I need to take with a pinch of salt […]
Nice info.
The car is said to release om 6th March.
cheers
From all the pictures that i’ve seen floating around the net, the rear looks more like that of the Nissan Teana’s rather than the camry (until & unless these pictures are just being published to mis-guide ppl – which is quite a rare possibility since most of the pics happen to be spy pics shot by real ppl themselves).
Great job guys!! Hats off to whoever managed the scoop in the first place since Maruti’s been so secretive about this car for some reason (they didnt even have it showcased at the expo).
Hi all,
If its March 6th, then the countdown has begun. And Camry or no Camry, Teana or no Teana, the car will be something to look out for also because its supposed to start a new price war. Read in the news today that Dzire is going to be the cheapest sedan in market once out.
So lets just gear up.
Cheerios,
Aparajita
Slow and steady wins the race. But how about a 200kmph dash to the finish line..?
Am postponing my idea of changing my car now. waiting for 6th march. Do hope maruti adheres to the schedule.
I was thinking of buying a Logan but after seeing the spy pix of Dzire which looks kind of nice design fresh look, I better wait till 6th March!!
So 6th March is gone. No news of Dzire yet. Wonder how long are they going to continue with the suspense?!
Slow and steady wins the race. But how about a 200kmph dash to the finish line..?
The new launch date for Dzire is 25/26th march.. also the ZDi will be the costliest version @ 6.90..ZXi would cost approx. 6.20.. TC
You are right, I also read somewhere that maruti is going to launch dzire by end of this month. Somewhere around 26 March. To me it seems it is ready to give all other sedans in this price bracket a run for money.
I spoke to the local Maruti dealer (at Bangalore) – he says the launch is on/around 26 March and pricing info will be released after that. Any idea about fuel efficiency anybody?
Do abybody knows about the exact launch date of Swift Dzire?
Hi all,
News keeps doing rounds and this time its buzzing that Dzire should be launched by March 26th.
@ Shantanu
Fuel efficiency should match upto MS Swift, i.e., around 12-14 for city driving and 16-17 for ’em highways. If “they” can be believed.
Slow and steady wins the race. But how about a 200kmph dash to the finish line..?
The information doing rounds on the net suggests that the launch is indeed scheduled for end of march. The fuel efficiency being promised is close to 15-16 km/lt for petrol.

The dealers here say that the dzire will be launched on 26th. I also got an exclusive preview of the car in all its flesh and bones. it looks quite good. Amazing how a few inches of extra metal can make a car look so much bigger… The infamous claustrophobic rear windows are gone too. The beige interirors add to the airy feel. Better tyres as well. If priced right, i think this’ll be the car to beat.
It’s been kept under so much secrecy so far, as if it were a second nano. Perhaps speculations reveal it to be a beautiful creation of japanese but it doesn’t mean that they will leave the people here languishing. It’s although a sedan but hearsay is that the body size has not been stretched so much. If i’m wrong, let me know.
To be priced around 5L is the petrol variant whereas the diesel variant is going to deprive you of 5.5L.
Yes arjun, I agree with you. The pricing as per the latest news starts at 5.2 for petrol and goes up to 7 for diesel top variant. I saw the website today. Maruti will have an exclusive DZire launch webcast on 26th for all those who register at http://www.marutidzire.com
So whats the exact price, How to Book?
How long is the delivery period????
Look out..
