In a bid to pump up Swift and SX4’s production, Maruti has started expanding on its Manesar plant’s production capacity. Owing to this, the production figures will rise by 70% to 1.7 lakh units yearly from March end onwards.
By 2010, the plant’s capacity is supposed to go up to 3 lakh cars annually. Owing to the increased productivity, Swift and SX4’s waiting period of 2-3 months is supposed to go down. The new Maruti sedan, Dzire, will also be produced out of here.
The expansion by Maruti Suzuki is a part of the Rs. 9000 crores that Suzuki plans to deploy for development purposes. It is also timed with the introduction of Suzuki’s global car A-Star that is also being said to be produced out of the Manesar plant.
