Kia Motors in running for LSVs for the Indian Army

Kia Motors, in joint collaboration with Tatra Vectra Motors Limited (TVML), is in the race to supply Indian Army with Light Specialist Vehicles (LSV).

Hyundai Kia Automotive group, Hyundai’s subsidiary and the second-largest auto manufacturer in Korea is all set to give Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Mahindra & Mahindra a run for their money. The company has already supplied KM450, its one-ton cargo truck to the army for field trials.

While the company had 20-odd models in its kitty on offer for defense purposes, they are initially competing in one segment only and hope to make their presence felt in the defense sector in the time to come with the aid of their JV partner TVML.

There are no plans to enter the passenger car sector yet as entering the passenger segment will be tantamount to cannibalizing its own market share. The company already has presence in the passenger car sector through Hyundai, the second largest player in the segment in India.
