Indian Hummers on their way

A Hummer unloads your pocket by Rs. 80 lakhs. Well…If you are in love with these rugged-monsters, you might not have to shell out so much anymore. The local manufacturers, who are competing for clinching the deal with the Army for providing military vehicles, are also looking forward to come to civilian sector with watered down versions of these mean-looking machines.

The companies involved are Tata Motors, Mahindra Defense Systems, Vectra Engineering, Ashok Leyland and Ordinance Factory Board. The Managing Director of Ordinance Factory Board said, “The SUV segment is quite promising. A modified version for civilian use is on the cards.”

Vectra’s chairman also makes a similar point, “A civilian version is very much in our scheme of things.” So while Mahindra seems keen on grinding its Axe for civilian use, Tata and Ashok Leyland are mulling over Light Specialty Vehicles to cash in on this segment.
