General Motors to bring more cars to India

GM is satisfied with the response to its cars, Spark and Aveo U-VA, in India and plans to introduce more variety in this mini segment. “The mini car segment is extremely important and we will definitely increase our offerings from two to more,” said GM India’s President and MD Karl Slyms.

GM India’s Director Operations said, “In 2006-2007, the company sold 29,000 units of mini cars and will see that rising to 50,000 units this calendar year. The company is looking at total sales of 90,000 this year.”

The mini segment seems to hold so much importance with the Chevy makers that the first cars to come out of GM’s upcoming Talegaon plant will be Spark. In a bid to get hold of as much as 10% of the market, GM is all set to invest about $200 million in India.
