Pune-based Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Ltd (KGEPSL) has launched its first electric three-wheeler Kinetic Safar in India. This is the first three-wheeler in the country to be equipped with a lithium ion battery and it will be available at expected a price tag of 1.3 Lacs to Rs. 1.4 Lacs (ex-showroom Delhi). Kinetic Safar has Automotive Research Association of India’s (ARAI) approval and in-line with CMVR guidelines, it has a maximum speed of 25 km per hour and can carry four passengers including driver.
Electric three-wheeler Kinetic Safar features and technical details:
The lithium ion battery operated three-wheeler is currently under homologation and will be launched on a pilot basis within a month. The company will provide the entire kit with vehicle like battery management system (BMS) and charger to its customers, while the lithium ion battery costs around Rs. 55,000-60,000 more than a conventional lead acid battery. Currently most of electric wheelers in India using lead acid batteries which take long charging time of 8 to 10 hours while a Li -Ion unit can be charged in only 1.5 to 3 hours only. Also heavy lead acid batteries typically have to be replaced every year while Li-Ion cells have a life up to 5 years.
Kinetic Green has received a Rs. 400-crore order from the Uttar Pradesh government for the supply of 27,000 units of electric three-wheeler Kinetic Safar, which is under the e Rickshaw Yojana of UP to be completed within 12 months. The delivery of the first 300 units of electric three-wheeler Kinetic Safar has been already completed and deliveries are planned to be enhanced to 3,000 units per month.
Kinetic Green has tied up with Exide, a leading battery manufacturer for lead acid battery system for warranty, service and recycling network all over India. Also Kinetic Safar will have an exclusive dealer network, service network.
Iithium ion batteries operated Electric three-wheeler Kinetic will offer following benefits:
- Li-Ion batteries can be charged in only 1.5-3 hours whereas the same lead acid batteries take 8-10 hours
- Li-ion cells have a life of 1500 cycles (NMC) & 3000 Cycles (LeFePo4) i.e. a life of up to 5 years. And the life of lead acid batteries is 1 year with 360 cycles
- If the vehicle is not used for some time its charge status remain same
- Low maintenance of Li-ion cell compared to lead acid or Ni cad
- Low weight with Li-Ion battery allowing the vehicle to operate for more kilometers between charges
- Company is also planning for battery rental, battery swapping, and creation of charging points to further aid the cause and penetration of this technology.
