General Motors (GM) India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors has initiated a recall for the diesel versions of the Sail sedan and Sail hatchback. The recall affecting a total of 4,000 units has been implemented in order to address a potential issue with the engine.
Among the recalled cars, the Sail sedan car model comprises 2,910 units while the Sail hatchback comprises 1,090 units. According to Mr. P Balendran Vice President GM India, a problem at the crankshaft hub bolt which can potentially affect the performance of the 1.3 liter diesel engine needs to be rectified. The issue will be resolved by the carmaker without any charge to the car owners.
The automaker had also recalled 1,14,000 units of the Tavera multi-purpose vehicle in India during the month of July 2013. However, the issue in that instance was related to emission as claimed by the carmaker.
