The Swift DZire by Maruti Suzuki India has overtaken the Alto small car in terms of sales and has become the largest selling car in India. The compact sedan car model outsold the Alto small car by 854 units in the month of May 2013.
The Swift DZire sedan has witnessed higher sales than the Alto despite of being costlier keeping in view the price sensitive mindset of the Indian consumers. While the Alto costs about Rs 3,00,000, the Swift DZire is priced at about Rs 5,00,000 – Rs 7,00,000 depending on the version and variant.
The Swift DZire compact sedan is part of the emerging compact sedan segment in the Indian automobile industry which has witnessed a growth of 21 percent in the fiscal 2012-13 during a period when the total sales in the industry fell by 7 percent.
The latest additions in the compact sedan segment include the Honda Amaze and the Verito by Mahindra.
