The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese 2 wheeler manufacturer Honda, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has inaugurated its third production plant in the state of Karnataka on May 28, 2013. The new 96 acre facility has been set up with a total investment of Rs 1,350 crore by the bike maker.
The new manufacturing plant will commence operations from June 2013 and will have an annual production capacity of 12,00,000 units in Phase I. A further increase of 6,00,000 units capacity has been announced by the two wheeler manufacturer which will take the total capacity of the plant to 18,00,000 units annually by the end of the fiscal 2013-14. With the new plant, Honda’s cumulative annual production will increase by 64 percent.
The increase in production capacity is in line with the bike maker’s aim for the top position in the Indian two wheeler industry.
Designed in accordance with Honda’s “Joy to the Next Generation” concept, the new facility proactively reduces energy consumption during production. It meets more than 30 percent of its annual water requirement through rain harvesting system. Further, the plant boasts of Zero liquid discharge.
