Hyundai India, the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automaker and the largest exporter of cars in India has stopped the production of its Accent entry level sedan. According to a company official, the move by the carmaker will be followed by the launch of a new compact car that would compete directly with the Swift by Maruti Suzuki.
The decision to phase out the Accent sedan may have been taken in order to make room for the launch of the new car which will be positioned between the i10 and the i20 car models. The new car will feature both petrol and diesel fuel options.
The new compact car developed by the automaker will feature the ‘Fluidic’ design found in the Hyundai i20 hatchback, the Verna sedan and the Elantra sedan.
The Accent sedan had been witnessing low sales due to the lack of diesel fuel option in addition to numerous entrants in the segment with diesel versions.
