GM India targets 1,00,000 car sales in 2013

General Motors (GM) India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors has set a target of selling 1,00,000 cars in the year 2013. The carmaker expects its new SUV car model Enjoy to boost its sales and help it achieve the feat.

According to Mr. Vikas Jain Director Sales GM India, the new SUV Enjoy is the third car model from its partnership with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation ( SAIC) and will be positioned as a family car in the Indian car market.

The American automaker sold a total of 92,000 units in the year 2012 in comparison to 1,11,000 unit sales in 2011. Given the industry expectation of 6-8 percent growth in 2013, the market may however remain flat, stated Mr. VP sales Rajesh Singh GM India. He added that it is difficult to predict the market in the current market scenario.

The April 2013 sales of the auto major in India were reported to be 8,196 units which is 2.39 percent higher than its sales in the same month in 2012.
