Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India is gearing up to launch 2 new diesel engines for its car portfolio in the Indian car market. The two new turbo diesel engines are being developed by the Japanese automaker for 2 new diesel powered car models which will be launched in India in the year 2014.
The new engines being developed by the automaker are 1.0 liter and 1.4 liter diesel engines which will replace the existing 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine which is sourced from the Italian automaker Fiat. By developing its own diesel engines, Maruti Suzuki will also end its dependence on Fiat for sourcing powertrains for its car models in India such as the Ritz and the Swift hatchbacks, the DZire compact sedan, the Ertiga life utility vehicle and the SX4 mid-size sedan.
The smaller 1.0 liter diesel may be introduced for the automaker’s compact hatchback models such as the WagonR and the A-Star. The 1.4 liter engine on the other hand will feature in the Swift, the DZire, the Ertiga and the company’s new upcoming SUV models.
