Mahindra Reva, the electric vehicle (EV) making vertical of the Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has will launch the Reva e2o in the Indian car market in the month of March 2013. The electric carmaker has been delaying the launch of the new EV in the expectation of benefits and subsidies as part of the new Budget 2013-14.
Apart from the existing subsidy benefits on components and batteries for the EVs being extended till 2015, the Union Budget did not witness any change in policy and subsidy. The automaker will however launch the new EV in March 2013.
The Reva e2o EV will be smaller in size than the hatchbacks in the Indian car market and will have a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
While the prices of the electric vehicles are expected to be high, the running cost for the EVs come out to be about Rs 0.50 – 0.60 per kilometer, which is significantly lower than that for diesel and petrol powered cars.
